Life on a Ship

Annmarie, Steve, Kendall, Jake and I took a Western Caribbean cruise the first week of December. It was the first cruise for Jake, Kendall and I and Annmarie and Steve's third cruise so most of the time we just followed what they did. The cruise ship was amazing with many amenities and felt more like a fancy hotel than a ship. It was nice to be pampered from food whenever you wanted which was always fabulous, multiple pools and hot tubs, movies in the pool, entertainment all day, and my bed being made everyday. We also celebrate Steve's birthday and Annmarie and Steve's anniversary. This was such an amazing vacation and already looking forward to our next cruise!

Grand Cayman

After a day at sea, our first stop was to the island of Grand Cayman. Annmarie, Kendall and I went to a turtle farm while Jake and Steve went snorkeling. The Cayman Islands have very strict laws and basically does not take any crap from their people or other countries around them mainly Cuba. Before the turtles we made a stop in Hell. Mail sent from their is postmarked from Hell. The turtles were amazing and extremely large. We were able to hold a baby turtle which did not feel anything like I thought it would. To calm them when there fins got going all you had to do was stroke the back of their neck and they would instantly settle down. I did not get any pictures of the turtles, not really sure what happened there.

Roatan, Honduras

Roatan is an island off of Honduras. The moment we stepped off the ship the heat and humidity hit you like a brick wall. We spent some time shopping at the port before taking a tour of a monkey refuge. The cruise line built their own port in Roatan with restaurants, shops and a beach. The crazy thing is they have to back the ship into a narrow port, I could not even imagine maneuvering such a large ship like that.

At the monkey refuge the monkeys were able to climb on you. You had to make sure you did not have any loose items because the monkeys would take them and carry them away into the trees.

Cozumel

In Cozumel, Jake and I took a ferry over to Playa del Carmen to take a tour of Coba. Coba is not as excavated as the other ruins and still has many large structures covered from the jungle. We had toured Chichen Itza and Tulum when we spent time in Cancun so we were looking forward to these Mayan ruins. Especially because they still allow you to climb to the top of main temple. We had a really interesting experience while we were on the bus traveling to Coba, our tour guide asked if anyone had heard of Zarahemla. Jake and I both shook our heads not thinking anything of it. Well as we were walking in the ruins, the guide came up to us and started speaking Spanish to Jake. He said that he was going to walk with his Mormon friends. After talking with him, we found out that he knew Helaman (Helaman is a LDS tour guide that took us to Chichen Itza and Tulum)and that Helaman had explained how The Book of Mormon could be related to the Mayan ruins. So from then on the tour guide would mention some of the things Helaman had told him through the tour. The amazing part of this story is that while we were at some ruins we turned around and there was Helaman. I mean really want are the odds. After we climbed the temple, Helaman was at the bottom and we were able to talk with him. This was probably by far my favorite shore excursion we did because of this experience.

Princess Cays, Bahamas

This was our last stop on our Caribbean cruise before the ship turned around to head back to Florida. It was a perfect day not to hot and the humidity was not an issue. While Steve and Jake went snorkeling for the second time, Annmarie and I lounged around in our clamshell on the beach. The sand was soft and felt good in the toes but the ocean floor had lots of big rocks. Kendall was not liking the beach at first but that only lasted a little bit and then she became a beach lover. She had no fear and would have ran to the ocean if we would let her.

What a fabulous weekend with my two best friends, Tiffany and Margie. We had many laughs with each other, stories to share, and of course sassing each other. These gals are my go to girls. I know they would do anything for me and it is the same for them. I love that we can be miles apart but when we are with each other we pick up right where we left. Thanks girls for a fun weekend, lets do it again. Love you!

Alan, Meredith, and the girls visit

Guess this means summer is coming to an end because this was the end of family visits. We were able to spend 3 fun filled weeks with Alan, Meredith, Mirabel and Sofia. The girls have such imagination it was fun to listen and watch them play. Mirabel treated us with singing Disney Princess songs. Sofia enjoyed drawing pictures on my Ipod touch. It was nice to spend one on one time with each of them. I can't wait to see you all again!

South Dakota

Jake and I were able to take a RV trip with some friends to see Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and the Wind Caves. It was such a fun getaway and as close to camping as I will ever get. Mount Rushmore was spectacular. The Presidents were chosen for the contributions they made to help America become what it is today. The thing that amazed me the most was that 90 percent of the sculpture was done by blasting. To be able to get so detailed with dynamite is just amazing. Just to see it in the daytime is great but at night when they put a spotlight on the monument, you could not help to feel a little patriotic. What a great symbol of America we have and helped me to reflect on what a privilege it is to live here.

What to say about Crazy Horse......I think crazy sums it all up. Just the face of the Indian took 20 years and according to the guide they hope to have the head of the horse done in 30 years. I hope they do complete it because I am sure it will be amazing as well.

This was a great trip and I am excited to go back again.

Vancouver

We took a quick trip across the border into Canada. Vancouver is a beautiful place situated right along the ocean. Our first stop was to Point Atkinson Lighthouse in West Vancouver. It was named by Captain Vancouver after the first child born there named James Atkinson Woodward. We had to hike down to the overlook and the kids loved being outdoors or they may have been happy not to be in the car anymore.

Our next day included a stop to the Capilano Suspension Bridge. The bridge is as wide as two 747 airplanes wing to wing and would come to the shoulders of the Statue of Liberty. Now that is one awesome bridge but only when I was not walking on it. On the other side there were smaller bridges up in the trees. It was a beautiful park and we all really enjoyed our time there.

Our last spot was to the beach by Stanley Park. The kids love being in the sand and water. Chloe would just crawl right to the ocean and sit in the water shivering. I would move her back a bit but she would just go right back. Braylen loves playing in the sand with his stick. He would find sticks everywhere and carry them around. Morgan went to the pool that just happened to be right on the beach.

It was a great time in Canada and to see some of the sights there. I was sure glad to cross over the border back to America.

Chloe turns 1

I was so happy to be in Washington for Chloe's birthday. These chances do not come very often. Chloe is such a sweet and loving little girl. I love her beautiful smile and laugh. She has a fun personality and not very often is she in a bad mood. You can not help but smile when you are around her. She did such a great job with her cake and made sure to taste every bit of it. I love you Chloe and am so grateful that you are my niece and I look forward to watching you grow into a lady.

Visit to Washington

So as you can see this summer is all about visiting with family and this was another great time. I love Washington it is a beautiful place and it is also were Aaron, Jen, and the kids live. This time I made sure I got to visit longer and spent a week there. Dad and mom were able to spend two weeks with them. We went to Vancouver, celebrated Chloe's birthday, Jen made some really awesome and healthy dinners, and celebrated Independence Day with a firework show right in the neighborhood. Jen and I did go see Eclipse together in a movie theater for 21 and older plus the seats reclined and you ordered food right from your seat. We were so spoiled I may never want to go to a regular movie theater again.

Summer Visits

I love when family comes to town, its a chance to catch up and enjoy time with each other. Gordon, Trisha, and the kids spent a few days with us. We went shopping, played on the water slide, made ice cream, enjoyed S'mores at the fire pit, and ate way to much! The time always goes fast and I always wish it would slow down. I never want it to end and wish we could live closer and see each other often. My family is so precious to me. I love that we never loose sight of that because we can always pick up where we left and it never feels we have been separated too long. I hope my family knows how much I love and appreciate all of them in my life.

Extra Traveler

In early June, I made a quick weekend trip to Utah. The purpose for this trip was to bring Madison back to Colorado. She wanted to spend time in Colorado by herself and her parents agreed as long as she raised the money for her plane ticket. To my surprise and excitement she did it. I had so much fun spending time with Madison one on one. She is growing up and becoming quite the little lady. Unfortunately, I didn't get many pictures of our adventures but trust me we had a blast. She came to the dental office with me and was able to see what I do as a dental hygienist. She was very eager to help with clean up and getting the instruments ready to be sterilized and just loved watching me do my thing. We took a day and went to the zoo and saw a gorilla up close it was amazing. Even Jake got in on the action and took a day off so he could go with us to Water World. It is such an awesome water park and Madison did not let anything scare her, she went on rides I refused to. We babysat Kendall together and she was so good with her. Kendall really loved having her around.
I really enjoyed the opportunity to spend that time with Madison. She has such a sweet personality and is so loving, imaginative and fun to be with. I hope I can have a chance to do this with all of my nieces and nephews. Thanks Madison for visiting us and I hope you had as much fun as we did. I love you!

Supporting Mirabel from Colorado

Last night we attended a dinner to support the local chapter of the Adult Congenital Heart Association. My niece Mirabel was born with a heart defect which required her to under go two open heart surgeries. She is a miracle to us all and inspires me to be grateful for my life. I know Heavenly Father sent her to earth to be an example and strength to all around her. We love you Mirabel!

Kendall's 1st Year

Kendall turned 1 yesterday, I cannot believe how fast the year has gone. It has been such a special experience for me to see her grow during this year. Kendall is such a happy girl and you cannot ever be in a bad mood around her. Her laugh and smile are very contagious. Weekend in Montrose

The weather was gorgeous and we had such a great time together seeing the surrounding sights and enjoying time with each other. Kendall is quite the girl and knows when she is the center of attention which happens to be every time. But how we love that little girl!

I spent the weekend with Gordon, Trisha, Madison, Landon, McKinley, and Kennedy. It was a great time because I was able to be there for McKinley's 5th Birthday. Gordon took Thursday off from work which I heard he doesn't do very often so I guess that must make me his favorite sibling. We first made a stop at Landon and Madison's school for their lunch and then took McKinley to Tucano's for a birthday lunch. On Friday night we went to the BYU gymnastic meet which they won. On Sunday we celebrated McKinley's birthday with cake and ice cream. Trisha made such an awesome princess cake for her what talent she has. The time once again went to fast and I was sad to say goodbye. I miss not seeing all of my nieces and nephews on a regular basis and its such a treat for me to spend time with them. Thanks again for the fun and wild weekend!

Winter Vacation

It's that time again. The last two years some of the family went to Mexico to help us get through the winter cold. This year some wanted to bring their kids so we decided Orlando was the place. It was a busy week and of course it went by way to fast. Our activities for the week included: Disney World, Universal Studios, Busch Gardens, Airboat ride, Kennedy Space Center, drove to Tampa to see the Gulf of Mexico, swimming, hanging out, family dinners, and lots of laughing. If you are thinking wow thats a lot of activities for a big group let me tell you that not everyone did everything. It was so great to be with the family and let the cousins play together.

A Visit

It has been a week since Aaron, Jen, Morgan, Braylen, and Chloe left Colorado after their 2 week stay with us. The time went by to fast but we have many lasting memories of their trip. Here is a list of all we did together, in no particular order:

Jen and I saw the midnight showing of New Moon.
Shopping, shopping, and more shopping.
Lunch at Costa Vida. Jen had a craving and when I told her we had one in Colorado we were all over it.
Aaron and Jake went to a Nuggets and Bronco game.
Aaron, Jen, and Jake went to the CU vs Nebraska game.
Jen and I stood in line at Old Navy twice. Once on Thanksgiving to buy Rock Band 2 and get a free guitar. The other time was the day after at 2 am to get Lego Rock Band.
Playing with the Morgan and Braylen and cuddling Chloe.
Chloe started to roll over and now she is a pro at it.
Many family dinners.
Thanksgiving dinner. Mom made the best turkey.
Bowling which was a first for Morgan and Braylen. They did great but got bored halfway through the first game.
Celebrating Steve and Mogan's birthday. An awesome dinner by Annmarie and a cake from Cold Stone.
Playing outside. Braylen could not get enough of the sand box, luckily we had great weather.

October Snow

Its still only fall, this should not be happening yet. The storm has closed schools and work for many people, including me. We have about 14 to 17 inches around our home along with drifts. The sun even peaked out while I was clearing the satellite dish off. The parents and Jake drove to Utah last night for a wedding so I was lucky enough to clear the drive way. Thanks dad for the lesson on the snow blower it helped out a lot. I am just staying inside keeping warm and watching old movies.

Last week Gordon and Trisha left the kiddies with us while they went to San Diego for their 10 year anniversary. We had quite the busy litle house but it was all worth it. The kids were really great a few arguments here and there but no major break downs. They bunked up with me so it pretty much was a free for all where we slept. In the evenings Jake and I would take them to the park to give the grandparents some quiet time and to release some energy before bed. They went with Grandpa and Grandma on Wednesday to Annmarie's to watch Kendall and go swimming. Thursday was my day with the kids and I kept them very busy. We started off the morning by seeing G Force. At first I was only going to take Madison, Landon, and McKinley. When Kennedy saw us all getting ready to leave she came to me and said, "Ceesa I go movie too" oh how could I resist such a sweet plea. They were all great in the movie with a little bit of sugar they were set. We picked up some lunch at McDonalds and then headed to the Littleton Historical Museum with Margie and her kids. This place has the history of the town of Littleton but we spent most of our time on the farms. We saw donkeys, cows, turkeys, pigs, and chickens. Then home for a little relaxation and quiet time. That night Jake and I took Madison, Landon, and McKinley to Jump Street. This place has about 8 long trampolines lined up next to each other and you just go to town jumping. There is a trampoline and air jumpers for the litle kids plus a area to play dodge ball. We stayed for 2 hours and what a work out that was. I forgot the camera but it was a lot of fun. On Friday night we made homemade vanilla ice cream and made our own sundaes. Saturday came to fast and it was time for the family to load up and head home to Utah.

I really enjoyed having them around and now the house is so quiet and almost boring. The week went by so fast and I learned so much about each of the kids. Madison is very motherly and loves to help out. Landon loved hitting the wiffle ball, he became very good at it. McKinley is a talker but it was so fun to listen to her. Kennedy is soft spoken but can definetly get her feelings across when she needs to. And they all have a great sense of humor I do not think I have laughed so much. So this might sound weird but thanks Gordon and Trisha for letting me spend this time with them. I miss being around and seeing them grow up.

The Suite Life

The Broncos held an evening practice at Mile High a few weeks back which Jake and I attended. It was open to the public and the fans really showed their support I just hope its all worth it. We were lucky enough to have a friend hook us up with a chance to sit in a suite. What a life and only if I had a few thousand dollars to throw away this might be possible. It was fantastic! Comfy seats, great view, awesome food, and just plain fun. GO BRONCOS!

Not really but close enough. Last nite a wild storm came through town causing power outages, trees and limbs torn down, leaves all over, and pea size hail with up to 6 inches in places. Jake and I were on our way home from a friends around 10:30 pm enjoying a little rainstorm. When the car in front of us slowed down and hail with standing water was cover the highway. We were very lucky the storm had already passed over leaving its trail. At home everything was standing up and we had power as well. The only areas that saw damage were the flower and vegetable garden. So Jake and I went out into the neighborhood checking it out. On a normally busy street a car was stranded in about 6 inches of hail. They were digging out the tires and eventually had to pull it out with the help of another car. It was pretty amazing to see the difference from our house and just a few blocks away, we did not get nearly that much hail. Hopefully we do not have a repeat performance tonite.

Summer Fun

Gordon, Trisha, and the kids came for a visit over 4th of July. We had so much fun together with BBQs, swimming at Annmarie's neighborhood pool, the water slide, playing Rock Band, and of course the fireworks. The kids have grown up so much and its great to enjoy time with them.

And is was also the weekend Steve and Annmarie blessed Kendall. Steve gave such a sweet blessing to such a sweet girl.

Madison and Landon stayed a couple extra days with us and rode back to Utah with Grandpa and Grandma. We even got a Rockies game in.

Yes Another Trip

Last weekend I went to Washington to visit Aaron, Jen, Morgan and Braylen. It is beautiful country there, with the tall trees and green everywhere. It never even rained and the sun shined all weekend. Morgan was very exited to see me and the first day I was there she was right by my side loving on me. Braylen was a little shy and I think I only got one hug and kiss out of him but everytime he saw me it was, "Hi Aweesa" in his deep voice. They are both such fun and imiginative kids. It was great to be around them.

Jen and the kids took me to Snoqualmie Falls which is very close to their home. It was very beautiful. We also stopped to see the train museum. Braylen is fascinated with trains so he was in heaven.

Jen and I took an overnight trip to see the town of Forks, where the book Twilight is set. Its a very quiet and small town nestled in the mountain. It was about 4 hours from their home along with a ferry ride.

Jen was great and booked us a Twilight themed room at the hotel. All for the effect right. We explored the town and came to the quick conclusion that they did not use any part of the town for the movie. That bummed us out but we still enjoyed our time and had a lot of laughs. There were 2 home designated as the Swan home and Cullen home that we drove by. We drove down to La Push beach but it was windy so we did not spend to much time.

The next morning we went to the Hoh Rainforest it was beautiful. The trees were very tall and moss was growing over everything.

Another day we went to downtown Seattle and walked around the Pike Street Market. They sell fish, fish, and more fish along with fruit/vegetables and gorgeous bouquets of flowers. We also went up to the Space Needle and were able to see the city for a different vantage point.

It was yet again another amazing trip and I cannot wait to get back there soon. Thanks Aaron, Jen, Morgan, and Braylen for a very fun and eventful weekend.

Happy Birthday to the Best Sister

Annmarie has always been a kind, loving, and fun sister to me. I am so grateful to have her as my sister. We probably were not the normal sisters growing up because we always got along. We may have had our tiffs with another but that never got in the way with what matter the most to us which was our friendship. She is my best friend. Growing up with four brothers was always an adventure but I always had my sister to turn to. We shared a room until she got married and I will always remember those times with each other. I think she got the best gift for her birthday this year, Kendall. Annmarie is such an awesome mother which I always knew she would be and I love to see her interact with Kendall. So Annmarie, thanks for being my sister I would not trade you for the world.

Outer Banks North Carolina

Last week we met up with Alan, Meredith and the girls along with some of Meredith's family in a little town called Duck. Alan found us a great beach house with a lot of room, decks all around the house, and a heated pool and hot tub. We were within walking distance to the beach and the Atlantic Ocean. The ocean was very cold but we had the pool to make up for that. We all had such a wonderful time and it was great spending time with Alan, Meredith, Sofia, and Mirable. The girls are a riot and have such imaginations.

We had a few adventures and saw many sites. We saw three of the four light houses that are on that strech of land, the Carrituck, the Bodi, and Cape Hatteras.

The only one we were able to climb up was the Cape Hatteras Light house. Climbing the 248 spiral staircase is like climbing a 12 story building. The staircase was narrow but manageable. Luckily, there were not to many visitors that day and the weather was nice. The view from the top was amazing but windy.

The place where the light house sits today is not its origianl area. It was closer to the sea but the water slowly eroded the land and it became necessary to move the light house. So between 1999 and 2000 the light house was moved 2,870 feet inland and from the top of the light house you can see the path they took to move this enormous building.

Another place we visited was the Wright Brothers Memorial in Kitty Hawk. This is the site where the brothers made their historic flight. They had four different tries that day and the last one came to be their longest one.

What another great family vacation. We had many laughs, night time swimming, great food especially the dinners, and relaxation. We all agree we had an enjoyable time and would do it again in a heart beat. Thanks again Alan and Meredith for the invite and all the fun.

Happy Birthday Kennedy!

Our little Kennedy has brought such a sweet spirit along with an awesome smile and laugh into our family. She also can have a feisty attitude but in the end she is always so lovable. One story I have happened when we were in Newport Beach. Gordon and Trisha had gone out for the evening, all of the kids were in bed but for some reason Kennedy did not want any part of that. So I got her out of bed and had just made some popcorn she came and curled right up to me. I know she thought she had pulled one over on me but I did not mind because she and I were enjoying that quiet moment together. I love Kennedy with all my heart and love seeing her growing up.

Our DIY Project

Recently mom has wanted to remodel the small bathroom on the main floor. So last weekend we went to WalMart picked out a paint color and other supplies and away we went. We picked a bright yellow thinking it would cover the wall easily but little did we know it would take 3 coats of paint to get our desired looked. Dad even got involved and hung the new light and mirror for us. It still needs a few more decorations but in the end it turned out nice and very bright just like we wanted it. The pictures do not do our project justice so do not judge the outcome by them you will just need to see it in person. Mom is already picking paint out for her own bathroom. We will keep you updated on our projects.

Happy Belated Wishes

Let me start this post off by saying that I am an awful aunt and there are no excuses for me forgetting one of my beautiful nieces or nephews birthday.

McKinley is such an energetic and funny little girl. I have many stories about her that I love. I will share two that I always have in the back of my head and giggle everytime I remember them.

The first story is she and I were getting ready to watch the movie Tinkerbell together when I needed to get something before it started I said to McKinley I will be right back and her response was, "Don't joke me." I think she was worried that I was saying that just so I did not have to watch the movie with her but I did come back quickly.

The next story was the night of Madison's baptism. Gordon was getting her ready for bed and she asked her dad, "Dad is the hogi yogi ghost really real." How could you not get a good chuckle from that.

I love McKinley so much she has such a personality and she is not shy to show it off. She has so much energy that I get tired just watching her. She also is very affectionate and loving to others. McKinley I hope your birthday was special and you have a great year being 4.

A group of 8 which included Aaron, Jen, Jake and me went to Cancun for the week. The sun, sand, and Caribbean Ocean were amazing. I think I could live my whole life in vacation mode. Most days were spend relaxing either on the beach or at the pool and at night we would go out on the town for dinner.

One of the days down there we went to Tulum and Chichen Itza. We had a private tour with an LDS guide named Helaman. He knew so much about the scriptures and made the ruins come to life by comparing them to the people from The Book of Mormon and Bible. It was such an amazing and spiritual experience you could not help to have your testimony strengthened in the scriptures.

Another day we went XCarret which is considered a water park but was not what I consider a water park. It was still fun and had a lot to see. There is an underground river that you can float down in a life jacket and snorkel. The park also had many animals and birds, along with a butterfly farm, and a botanical garden. It also had water sports like snorkeling, scubbing, swimming with dolphins or sharks. At night they recreated some of the Mayan rituals and ceremonies.

We all agreed that this was an awesome trip and are already thinking of our next vacation.

Last night, I found a book titled Leaves of the Lindon Tree. Its a collection of recollections from residents of Lindon, Utah which grandpa and grandma Rodeback contributed to. As I read their history of growing up and finding each other, I shed many tears thinking of the love they had for each other and how much I miss my grandma. This is what my grandma said about meeting my grandpa. I was working in a cafe in Pleasant Grove when Charles came in. My sister and I worked there for awhile and he came in with his friend. I looked at my sister and I said,"Umm, I'll take the little one, and you take the other one." Charlie was the little one. We met later at a dance in American Fork. He asked to take me home, and we became an item after that. What a sweet story this is and one that I will cherish. She finishes their part in the book by saying, We celebrated our fiftieth wedding anniversary on February 11, 2003. We have had many good years together and hope to enjoy more years with each other. And hope to spend more years living here in Lindon. Today they would have celebrated 56 years of marriage but I know that grandma still keeps watch over grandpa and waits for their reunion. You never know when loved ones will leave your life but I am grateful for the impact my grandma made on my life and for the tender mercies we all enjoy daily.

Red Rocks

The weather in Colorado lately has been fantastic. We had a record high of 70 degrees last week. What an amazing winter! I could not stay indoors anymore so I persuaded a friend to join me on a hike to Red Rocks. It was such a gorgeous day with the blue sky behind the rocks without a cloud in the sky. I better enjoy this while I can because the weather can always change in an instant around here.

Landon has been a part of our family and its been great to see him grow and become such a smart, funny, and handsome boy. This is a busy month for birthdays and today is another special day for our family. Today is the day Braylen came into our family and as yet one of the two grandsons and nephews. Braylen is such a fun loving boy and has such a fantastic smile. I love this little boy and here are the 2 reasons even though I could make a longer list.

1. I love when he sings Twinkle, Twinkle (I wish I had this on video to share). He really gets into and just sings it over and over.

2. I love it that he can talk in almost understanding sentences. Last time we were in Utah and leaving to come home he said to me "Come back soon" and "Miss you already." He did copy want Morgan had just told me but it was still so sweet.

I could not let this day go by without wishing Aaron a happy birthday! As a younger sibling I was never sure if the day would come that Aaron and I would have the kind of frienship we have today. Do not get me wrong I still loved him but as he grew up and especially after his mission he turned into someone I could talk to and enjoy spending time with him. He has been a great example to me and I see the love he has for his wife Jen and his chilren Morgan and Braylen. Of Colorado Mammoth season has begun. Jake and I have downgraded to only 2 tickets this year and are closer to the action. Tonight was the home opener and although we lost horribly, we had a good time. Our seats our now in the section behind the penalty box, 13 rows up where the really die hard fans are who paint their faces and are always cheering or yelling at the refs. We actually see the players faces and just how big they are. Hopefully this year will be better and that we will not see a repeat of what happened tonight.

Last night Jake and I went with our friends from church to the Denver Zoo to see the Christmas lights. They put lights up in the trees and some that resemble animals in the zoo. It was a fun time even though most of the animals were in their homes for the evening. We did get to see the elephants, rhinoceros, giraffes, seals, and sea lions.

Well not quite, it was quiet but there was no snow this year. Christmas morning started late, we had breakfast more like lunch of french toast and then we opened our gifts. Annmarie and Steve were over for the day. After gifts, the boys went to see Valkyrie while the girls stayed home at watched Mamma Mia. We had Christmas dinner which consisted of ham, funeral potatoes, mom's famous stuffing, rolls, and corn. With many treats and chocolate to hold us over. Once again a round of Mexican Train dominos was started and emotions were very subdued mostly because we did not keep score this time.
It was a great day to remember our Savior and be with some of the family, the rest were very much missed. Especially the kids who always seem to give more excitement to the holiday than us adults. I hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas day with family and friends.

For Christmas Eve this year we went over to Annmarie and Steve's for an easy dinner and games. We had a very good time even if tempers were heated during the games Sequence, Mexican Train dominos, and even Uno. Who would guess that would cause so much distress. Luckily no game board or dominos were thrown. Thanks Annmarie and Steve for a very enjoyable and quiet evening.

Today we celebrate our mom! She is such a wonderful woman and did an amazing job raising six children. She would probably kill me if I mentioned her age so I will just list 10 things I love about my mom.

She takes care of us all even those far away and is concerned for us.

She stays up to wait until I or Jake get home from a late night, even though she said she just woke up.

She loves her 8 grandchildren and loves when they call her on the phone it truly lights her up.

She has a testimony of the gospel and Jesus Christ, its a quiet one but I know its there.

She loves my dad, its a special thing to see when they express their love for each other.

I love that she and I have a great relationship and that she will shop, do lunch, and scrapbook with me.

I love that she will scrape and warm my car on cold, snowy days when I have to go to work.

I love that she is always there to listen to our problems and gives advice that is practical.

I love that she loves her parents, this was a difficult year with losing her mom but I still see the love and concern she has for her dad.

I love that she loves her siblings and still continues to have a great relationships with them.

Mom you are a great example to me and I appreciate all the many wonderful things you do for our family. So tonight to celebrate Annmarie and I are taking her to see Neil Diamond, it just happened that he was in town on her birthday.

Madison's Baptism

This past weekend we were able to be in Utah for Madison's baptism. She has become such a beautiful girl who has a lot of spunk and an attitude to match. I am so proud of her decision and look forward to seeing her continue to grow her testimony in the gospel. Uncle Steve was asked to give a talk about baptism and did awesome. Gordon baptized her and Grandpa Atkinson did the confirmation. Afterwards, Trisha put together an awesome selection of dessert.
It was also fun to be with the family again. Many family dinners, laughs, children running around, seeing cousins and other extended family, and one night the girls went and saw Twilight. I just love being with the family and I know I say this all the time but it truly is the highlight of my life.

Even though most times Morgan and I have a love slash hate relationship, I love this little girl! We can be onery with each other one minute and the next she is loving on me. She is such a sweet loving girl. I am amazed and how much she has learned in her short life. She has a sweet spirit and I thank Heavenly Father everyday that she is a part of our family. I truly miss not being around all the kids and treasure the times I spend with them. Morgan I am so happy to be your aunt and hope you know how much I love you.

Here are 4 reasons I love her but the list could go on.

A Quiet Thanksgiving Weekend

So with only Dad, Mom, Jake and I in Colorado for Thanksgiving it was a very quiet time. But mom did not disappoint, she made the most delicious dinner with plenty of leftovers. Thanks mom! After dinner Dad, my friend Margie and I went and saw Twilight. I had only told dad the basic plot of the book. Of course Margie and I loved it and so much better the second time. As for dad he did not hate it but I do not think he loved it either. Thanks dad for being a sport and watching a chic flick with us chics. Friday morning 4 am came way to early but its a great tradition we have. We started at Kohl's, on to WalMart, Circuit City, Best Buy, Sam's for breakfast, Target, Archiver's and finished at Costco where I bought myself a KitchenAid. I have wanted one for awhile and finally made the purchase and used it today for cookies and it was fabulous. Today we put the Christmas tree up. What a wonderful weekend we had.

Here is my grateful list:

My mom, she is a wonderful lady and I love the time we spend together shopping, scrapbooking and making cards, which she does not give herself enough credit for.
My dad, who is a good listener and gives the best advice. He has always taken care of our family and has given of his time freely.
My brothers Alan, Aaron, Gordon, and Jake. I will not lie we were not the Brady Bunch but now that we are older their friendship and brotherly love means so much more to me.
My one and only sister Annmarie, she is truly my best friend (sorry Margie and Tiffany). She has always been someone I look up to and enjoying being with.
My only brother in law Steve. He fits so well with our family and loves my sister so much. I have great respect for him because he always supported Annmarie in the gospel and found out for himself the truth and joined the church.
My sister in laws Meredith, Jen and Trisha who I count as sisters too. They have brought energy to this family and many good times.
My neices and nephews Madison, Landon, Sofia, Mirabel, Morgan, McKinley, Braylen and Kennedy. They are all joys to our family and I love the time I get to be with them.
My main girls Margie and Tiffany. They are such great friends and are each unique in their own way. I know I can tell them anything and they will support and encourage me in every way. My life has been changed because they are in it.
Books, only recently have I started this up.
My freedom and living in America and for all its beauty.
The Book of Mormon. I teach Gospel Doctrine in the singles ward and still do not think of myself as an intellect in the gospel but Heavenly Father knew I needed this in my life. I have gained a greater testimony of this book and feel the love Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ have for all of us.

I hope everyone had an enjoyable Thanksgiving and took the time to remember what you are grateful for in your life.

The Big 8

Madison turned the big 8 today. I remember this day fondly. Mom, Annmarie, and I drove out to Utah on this very day to see the first grandchild of the family. Dad joined us the next day. We went straight to the hospital and still waited a couple hours for her. She was such a beautiful sweet baby and I loved her from the beginning. So in honor of Madison here are 8 wonderful things I love about this awesome girl.

1. I love that she knows me and will call me on the phone to chat.

2. I lover her sense of humor and her laugh.

3. I love her pep and sassiness even though it gets her into trouble.

4. I love that she loves her siblings and her example to them. Even with their disagreements.

5. I love that she has her own opinions and thoughts and she is willing to share them.

6. I love that she has a sincere heart and is concerned for others.

7. I love that she will still give me hugs and does not thing I am a lame aunt.

8. I love that she enjoys school and strives to be a good student.

Madison I am so grateful that I have been a part of your first 8 years and look forward to many more with you. I am so proud of you and the choices you make. I thank Heavenly Father everyday that He sent you to our family. You are a joy to us all and we would be lost without your smile and love.

Halloween

This year we spend Halloween with the kids in Utah, what a great time to be with the family. The kids are growing up so much and we miss a lot of their experiences. So with my new work schedule I am able to make long weekend trips easier.
On Friday morning we went to Madison's school to see in her in the parade. She was dressed up as Hannah Montana, I had a hard time finding her because she looked so cute and the best Hannah Montana I saw but I am kind of prejudice.

We then were able to have school lunch with her along with Trisha, Landon, McKinley, and Kennedy. I remember school lunch as a kid and pizza day was always the best.

We were able to see Madison and Landon's classrooms and where they sat. Then we saw Landon in his parade, he was dressed as a Star Wars Storm trooper.

Everyone looked so awesome in their costumes. McKinley was Snow White, Kennedy was a ladybug, Morgan was Cinderella, and Braylen was Buzz Lightyear. Even some of the adults dressed up. Trisha was a witch, Jen was a devil, Aaron was the Joker which scared Braylen anytime he had the mask on, and I was a witch too. Later that night we all met at Gordon and Trisha's for dinner, trick or treating, and part of Poltergeist (we all were tired and falling asleep).

What a great weekend which was full of lots of family dinners, visiting with Grandpa Rodeback, shopping and just spending time together. Thanks to the family for including us in their plans.

A Visit to Tiffany's Farm

This past weekend I went to visit my friend Tiffany, her husband Todd, her daughter Emma and her Grandma Jean at there home slash farm in New Mexico. We had a lot of fun times and some shady times. Unfortunately only those who were involved are privy to this information since Tiffany threatened to remove my fingers if I ever speak about it again. The minute I retrieved my bag from the airport I was hoping that this was not how the weekend would go. As we were waiting at the baggage claim watching each and every bag go by, we see a red bag all wrapped in duct tape and laughed but then when it came around again I recognized it as my bag. Oh no, all I am hoping for at that moment is nothing is missing. TSA left me a nice little notice letting me know that my bag was searched and if it was locked they would break the locks but my bag did not. Let me just say TSA is lucky that I have calmed down in my old age because it would not have been pretty

On the way home we stopped at a corn maze, petting zoo, and pumpking patch in Albuquerque. Tiffany, Emma and I went through the corn maze shaped like hot air balloons. We met Grandma Jean at the end by the petting zoo. Of course we got lost even though we were choosing the right.

Oh my I can not believe how fast these two beautiful girls have grown up. I remember the day they were born, waiting for that phone call from Alan. To see Sofia and Mirabel today you would never think that they each weighed just over 3 pounds when they were born.

Each has had their own struggles but seem to be such happy little girls. So for their special day I will give 8 reasons why I love these girls.

1. Their beautiful voices. They love to sing.

2. Their blue eyes behind their cute glasses.

3. Their imagination, which is very extravagant. My favorite story was they were pregnant and traveling to Africa but not by plane because they did not like to fly.

4. Their hugs and kisses. When they were visiting over the summer every night before bed they would find me and anyone at home to say goodnight to.

5. Their laughs which are very contagious and make me smile.

6. The love they have for each other. Sometimes Sofia likes to be a bully but she has a heart of gold for her sister as does Mirabel and each would do anything for the other.

7. The knowledge they have gained so far. Yes I know they are only 4 but they are very smart. Living back in Washington DC, Meredith has taught the girls about all of the historical places. They are great tour guides during our visits.

8. Their fascination with pink and anything girly. They are not just a princess but a queen.

Today we celebrate the day Heavenly Father sent Sofia and Mirabel to our family and are continual grateful for their sweet spirits and the joy they fill us with.

Long Weekend in Moab

This past weekend some of the family met in Moab for some outdoors recreation. We all had a really great time together and all wished we could have stayed longer. Here is a day by day of our trip.

DAY 1
Dad, Mom, Annmarie and I left Friday morning for the 6 hour ride to Moab. Jake and Steve had gone down the night before. Riding through the mountains we were able to see the fall colors and they were amazing especially in Vail.

We made it to our condo around 2 in the afternoon. We rented a 3 bedroom condo from Vacation Rentals by Owner(vrbo.com). If you have not checked this place out it is pretty cool, you can find places to rent all over the country. The place was amazing and so comfortable for a home away from home kind of place.

Poor Annmarie had a killer headache and spent the night in bed nursing it. Aaron, Jen, Morgan and Braylen arrived around 5. We had dinner together and then went over to the hot tub and had a relaxing evening.

DAY 2
We woke up to a cold, cloudy, and rainy day but that did not stop us. We all loaded up into the cars and took off. We went into Canyonlands National Park and started up to the White Rim Trail.

Our first stop was Musselman Arch which speaks for itself. Its an arch suspended about 100 feet or more in the air and looks like a bridge that you can walk across if you have the guts for it.

After that we went up the Shafer Trail and found our way to the visitor center where we ate the lunch we packed along with us. All of the roads up to the visitor center were bumpy and bouncy plus it was rainy so it was muddy and the cars got caked with mud.
After lunch the kids were done so Aaron and Jen went back to the condo to let the kids run, they did not get to do much of this because of the weather. The rest of us went on and looked at a couple of the overlooks. We saw the top of the White Rim and where the Colorado and Green River come together.

It was a fun day even with the weather. We came home and Jen had dinner ready for us. Then it was off to the hot tub again to relax.

DAY 3
It was a much warmer day with the sun out and a lot less wind. We went into Arches National Park. What a beautiful place this is with all the red rock everywhere. Our first stop was to see Balanced Rock you probably can guess what it would look like but it was still pretty cool.

Then we went on to Delicate Arch. This is the arch that most people know of. We all decided to hike up to it except dad which while hiking I thought he was pretty smart. But even after the 1.5 mile hike up coming around the bend to see the arch was pretty spectacular.

We just sat and admired it. Some of us hiked over to the arch and stood underneath, it was huge. I was glad I did it because it could fall some day. If you look closely at the second picture you can see Jake sitting under the arch. The last two pictures are from the overlook area that dad was at while we were hiking.

After the long hike, we all went to Pizza Hut to celebrate our accomplishment. Braylen almost out ate everyone except Steve with a total of 4 pieces. I just think this is amazing since he is not 2 yet, but it is his favorite food. After dinner Aaron, Jen, and the kids left to go back home. We walked around downtown Moab and checked out all the souvenir shops. Then back to the condo to relax again in the hot tub. I definitely need to get me one of these.

DAY 4
Our last day in Moab, which came all to fast for us. This is a place you could spend a week and not see everything there. We all decided that we need to come back again soon. Dad, Steve, and Jake took one last 4 wheelin' trip up to Fins and Things while the girls stayed back and packed up the condo. When they came home we went to town and had lunch at the Moab Diner and then to the silk screen T shirt shop that we found the night before. Jake and I each picked out a sweet shirt to remember this trip, I know you are all jealous but just go to Moab and get one for yourself. Dad even found him a great new hat or maybe its the new thing in hair pieces.

What a great time we had together, we were sorry that the whole family could not come but maybe next time.

A Night to Honor

Tuesday night Annmarie and I went to a concert, we sat 20 rows back from the stage so some of the pictures are from the video screens. It was to recognize the Medal of Honor recepients from World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. There were 52veterans we were able to honor while they read their names. After the concert started with Lady Antebellum, Randy Travis and Carrie Underwood to finish out the night. It was a great show and we had a good time together. I am grateful for all of the men and women who have fought and still fight for our freedoms. Often times I get caught up in my own world and forget the many blessings I do enjoy in my life. We are so very lucky to live in this country and I will work towards not lettimg myself forget about all the sacrifices that were made to defend this country that I love.

Some know that Alex along with his siblings are a big part of our family, my parents call them their adopted grandchildren. When Alex was a baby I would watch him while his mom was working. So we spent a lot to time together and we have a close bond because of that. When Alex was a baby and was tired and did not have his bed he would nuzzle into my neck and be asleep in no time. He has always shared a special place in my heart. He is such a smart, sweet and fun boy to be with. He has many talents that Heavenly Father has given him and we are grateful to have him in our lives. I am very proud of him and all of his accomplishments. So today Alex we celebrate you. I love you very much and wanted to share it with everyone. Happy Birthday and I look forward to your baptism next month.

We all got together this evening for some sloppy joes and to watch the Big Showdown between Colorado University and Colorado State University at Aaron and Jen's home. But mainly I just wanted to show off the most adorable babies. I just cannot get enough of their cute faces and smiles. Their smiles are so contagious, I just look at them and my whole attitude changes.

Onion Days

I guess its just a weekend to visit city festivals. Saturday we went with Aaron, Jen and the kids to Payson for their festival. We again walked through the craft fair which wasn't much to look at but the food was good. We all ate a combination of food, long curly fries, chicken nuggets, Italian ice, fried oreos (very interesting but good), and cupcakes. Morgan loves carnival rides so she rode some along with Braylen. She went on her favorite ride, she calls it the bridge and long slide.

It was a fun day but I think I have had my share of craft fairs for the year.

Swiss Days

Mom and I are back in Utah for the weekend, we came Friday and will leave on Tuesday. Friday night Jen invited us along with Gordon and Trisha and the kids to go to Swiss Days in Midway with them. It was a perfect evening and a beautiful setting. We ate dinner some had Swiss tacos just like Navajo tacos and others had scones. Then we walked through the craft fair, I was a little disappointed to not see one Swiss craft. Sorry I had my camera but never took it out for any pictures.

Braylen and Morgan were excited to have him around again. It was exciting to be together again, it felt like we just picked up where we left off from our Utah trip. I showed up just as everyone was getting out the pool but by the looks of the pictures my mom took it seemed like everyone enjoyed it. Then it was off to eat. Steve makes the best hamburgers and he did not disappoint us. After we stuffed ourselves it was time for a family photo. We do not get to do these very often, in fact our last one was 2 years ago during Annmarie and Steve's wedding. We did our best and thats all we could ask.

Trisha is such an amazing woman and a great example to us all. She is such a fun person to be around and I always am happy to spend time with her. We are excited to have them come to Colorado today. It will be quite the family reunion. Meredith, Sofia and Mirabel have been here for a couple weeks, Alan will be joining us tomorrow. Saying Goodbye

It is a sad week for our family. Grandma Rodeback passed away on Thursday July 24th. She had a massive stroke Saturday night while away in Salt Lake and rushed to the hospital. The doctors did not expect her to survive, the left side of her brain was completely gone which helps us to walk, talk, and eat. My mom and her siblings decided it was best to remove all forms of life support on Monday night and brought her back to her home in Lindon with hospice care. Many family members were able to see her and say their goodbyes. Finally on the morning of the 24th she quietly slipped away from us. The vieweing is this evening in Pleasant Grove and tomorrow afternoon will be the funeral. She will be buried in the Lindon Cemetary.
She was a very special lady and I loved her very much. I have many fond memories of my grandma and will always have a place in my heart for her. One favorite memory I have is when she worked in the kitchen and the elementary school, many times we would go and have lunch with her. I am thankful for the plan of salvation and the knowledge I have that I will see her again and we will be together forever.

Our New Water Feature

Jake and I have been looking at these water slides for awhile and found a deal on Amazon that we could not pass up. It arrived on Thursday and so Friday was the day to try it out. Margie came over with her three kids Alex, Elijah and Maya along with her nephew Cason to help me set it up and then it was on. A whole afternoon of this on a hot day felt great. The kids were so excited except Maya did not like the spraying guns and would not get in unless the water to the guns was off. It was fun to watch the kids go down but when either Margie or myself went down it was hilarious. We would always go flying down and around the pool and of course lots of water would end up on the grass. We even got my mom to go down the slide once. So all of you grandkids coming to Colorado soon you better get your slide on because it is something you will not want to miss.

Jake's Day

Happy 26th Birthday to our son, brother, uncle, and friend Jake. Being the baby of the family he sure has put up with a lot from his older sibilings. From being carried around as a baby all the time to even being subjected to playing house with his sisters. He is a great brother and I know from experience. Since he and I are the only two living at home we have become good friends and share a lot of the same hobbies and interests. I am grateful that Heavenly Father choose him to round out our family. Unexpected Visitor

Last night around 10 o'clock, we had unexpected visitor fall into our window well. Jake was in the basement and heard all of the commotion. To his suprise it was a skunk. It looked like a baby skunk and he never did spray its disgusting scent, thank heavens. After a couple tries the skunk climbed up on the screen and hopped out and was on his way. We always are seeing skunks in the neighborhood. Many years ago a skunk got stuck under our fence. Eventually the skunk died and left an odor for days.

The morning started very early for some family members. Jen and Steve ran in the Freedom Run in Provo. This was Jen's first race and by what I hear she did an awesome job. I was in awe that she had a goal and was able to accomplish it, for me I loate running and do what I can not to do it. Way to go Jen! Steve loves to run and was happy to join Jen in her endeavor.

That night we all joined up at Aaron and Jen's home and had a BBQ. All the usual foods were present and it was a delicious dinner. The kids played in the kiddie pool for a bit but the water was pretty cold so that didn't last to long. We were going to pack everyone up and go watch the fireworks that the city of Pleasant Grove puts on every year. But after deliberating and taking a vote we decided to stay back and light the fireworks in the street. Aaron and his neighbor put on an awesome dueling firework display, that could have been compared to the Stadium of Fire. We enjoyed our evening together as a family and I wish we were able to do it more often but when we get the chance its a fun time had by all.

In Utah for the 4th

We have converged in Utah for 4th of July, Annmarie and Steve arrive tonight. Last night we went to Landon's T-Ball game. They let each of the kids hit and run all the bases and then switch sides. Landon did such a great job and had some pretty good hits.

After the game we went to the Brick Oven which is a family tradition. The pizza is good and we have a fun time talking and trying to control 6 children is exciting too. We celebrated Jake's birthday which isn't until July 1oth. They sang to him while he stood on the chair and then we shared his chocolate mousse pie.

Braylen got a new hair cut, he was pretty sad to see his faux hawk be buzzed off. He is so cute that he could pull off any hair do he wanted.

Annmarie and Steve's Backyard

Today we went out to Annmarie and Steve's home to lay mulch in their backyard but some of us had another idea. So those that stayed back and worked in the heat accomplished this....

While the smart ones in the group went to the neighborhood pool. Alex and Elijah had a really great time even if Elijah spent the first part being a little freaked out in the adult pool. But as soon as he was in the kiddie pool he had a blast and Alex just loves being in the water.

But in the end I think Steve got the better end of the deal. Maya loves to be around Steve and I think she shows it.

Clouds

Tonight I looked outside and saw these awesome clouds that I just had to take some pictures. It looked like cotton candy in the sky mmmm...cotton candy. The clouds kept growing bigger and bigger that it felt like they would overtake us at any moment. It reminded me how lucky we are to live here on earth and all the beautiful things Heavenly Father created for us. If earth is this beautiful I can only imagine what Heaven will be like.

Mamma Mia!

Last night, Annmarie and I saw Mamma Mia for the third time at the Buell Theater downtown. You know it great if we would pay 3 times to see it. The musical incorporates songs from ABBA. On the eve of her wedding, a daughter's quest to discover the identity of her father brings 3 men from her mother's past back to the Greek island paradise they last visited 20 years ago. This show is awesome, it makes you laugh and want to just sing out loud to the music. It amazes me that they wrote the story around the songs. Disneyland

The last time I was in Disneyland I was only 7 years old so needless to say I did not remember much of my visit there and am sure it has changed over these many years. We spent 3 days in Disneyland and California Adventure. It was fun to be with the kids and see their excited faces. Madison is very much a dare devil and went on all the rides that the adults did. I don't think anything scared her and she usually would go at least 2 times on each of these rides. Her and I were definetly a team on the rides. She would beg me to go even when I was a little apprehensive but it always turned out to be a blast. I think my favorite ride was the Hollywood Tower Hotel. You are put into an elevator and it takes to the top fast and the door opens and you can see all of Disneyland. It goes so fast that your stomach feels likes its in your throat but is a total rush. I had such a great time and hope that I will be able to remember this experience for the next trip to Disneyland.

Newport Beach

I spent a very enjoyable week with Gordon and his family in Newport Beach. I went along as the aunt, babysitter, and as an extra pair of eyes. The resort overlooked the Pacific Ocean and was a great home away from home. We spent a day at the beach and then 3 days at Disneyland. The weather was perfect for the first part of the week but then got cloudy and windy the last two days there. Thanks Gordon, Trisha, Madison, Landon, McKinley and Kennedy. It was good to spend time with everyone and get to know their personalities more than usual. They grow up so fast and not living close makes me really appreciate all of my family and the time we do get to spend together.

Today we celebrate our mom. Annmarie and Steve brought a nice dinner over of roast and mashed potatoes. It was really fantastic! For our mom we bought her a table for the patio, she enjoys eating breakfast outside when it is warm. Mom we all really appreciate the many things you have done for all of your children and grandchildren. We couldn't asked for a better mom. She is such a beautiful and talented woman and we all love you very much. Thanks Mom!

After dinner we also celebrated my birthday which is really on the 13th. We had cake and I opened presents. Thanks Jen for the scrapbook supplies, they will come in handy.
Steve and Jake also moved the piano from the basement to the living room. After Jake's breathing slowed down, mom played a few tunes. She was nervous since its been awhile but she did great. Jake also played some as well. It was such a relaxing day with the family just talking and laughing, I wish everyone could have been together.

New Hair Do's

On Thursday, Mom and I went and had our hair colored and cut. There is something to say about give yourself a refreshen look. I had 4 inches cut off my hair and know it is right above the shoulders. Its amazing how quick it takes to dry. We are so lucky to have such a great hairsylist who knows what looks good and will just go for it. Thanks Jackie we really do appreciate your talent with hair we would be in a world of hurt without you.

Aurora Reservoir

Yesterday Jake and I went to Annmarie and Steve's to ride our bikes with them around the Aurora Reservoir, which is just a mile east of their home. It was a beautiful day to do it we thought but we would soon find out different. The wind started to pick up just as we left the house but by the time we arrived at the reservoir it was very gusty. It wasn't to bad as long as the wind was behind you but when you had to ride into it that was another story. The last few miles were the worst. As we were making are way over the dam the wind was so fierce we were getting sprinkled with water and sometimes sad hitting our legs. Ouch! The last turn on the reservoir was right into the wind it was so hard to ride we ended up walking our bikes to the end. Our whole bike ride was over 10 miles it doesn't sound to tough but with the wind added in, it made for a long trip. Next time Steve said we need to do in earlier in the day.

When we arrived back to their home, mom and dad were waiting for us. After we freshened up, we all went to On the Border for dinner. It tasted so good after a long bike ride.

A Wonderful Weekend

This past weekend I had the opportunity to go through the Denver Temple for the 1st time. It was a wonderful experience and will definetly have to return very soon. Aaron, Jen, Morgan and Braylen came out along with my "good" friend Tiffany and her husband Todd and daughter Emma on Thursday. Also in the temple with me were my parents, Jake, and my friend Margie and Jeremiah.

My mom was my escort. The temple worker assigned to help me through the session was very excited for me and it was nice to have that positive energy around. After the temple we went over to Annmarie and Steve's for a BBQ. Only in Colorado can it be sunny in the morning and snow by afternoon and that was our luck for the BBQ. It was great food, Steve makes the best hamburgers. Sunday was a warm day and we were able to spend some time outside. We had a family dinner and then had our 1st fire pit of the season.
I want to thank everyone who was able to be with me in the temple. It meant a lot to see family and friends in the Celestial room. Thanks to those who called and thought of me too.

Bon Jovi

Last night Annmarie and I went to the sold out Bon Jovi concert at the Pepsi Center. This is our 2nd Bon Jovi concert and knew it was going to be an awesome night. I have been excited for months and the day finally came. The opening act was Chris Daughtry. It took some time getting into the arena because security was padding everyone down, I am sure we can guess what they were looking for. When we finally make it to our seats, Chris Daughtry was already on stage and it was dark. Turns out they set up a spotlight right in our seats so we are directed to customer service to get new tickets. The whole way down we are thinking we will be stuck in the back, well we were completely suprised when we ended up 10 rows up from the side of the stage. It could not get much better then that. So here are pictures of our seats before and after.

By the time we were settled in our permanent seats for the concert Chris Daughtry was halfway through his performance and we were okay with that because we went to see Bon Jovi. He did put on a good show even though I only knew 3 of his songs.

Finally time for Bon Jovi the man or band of the hour. They rocked the house for over 2 hours and my ears have stopped ringing and I just starting to hear again. Right by our section was an area that he came over to a couple times and where I got my best pictures of him and Richie Sambora.

They also had 4 screens set up behind the stage so those in the way back could see at least more of his features that just a figure on the stage. The screens rotated around, came together and made a bigger screen and also streched out.

We didn't get home til 11:30 and it was sure rough getting up for work this morning but the concert was definitely worth it. I can't wait til he comes next year.

Good News

After much prayer and thought, I have decided to receive my endowments. My patriarchal blessing mentions a lot about temple work and how involved I would be. So I cannot wait around for another reason to enter the Lord's house. This is a big step for me in my life. I am very excited for the opportunity and blessings that will come from it. So the big day is April 12th for those who would like to be with me on this special day.

Ear Candling

So I have been having a little ear issue the past few days. I have tried everything from ear drops to laying on a heating pad and none of these have cured it. I remember a few years ago we were in Utah and Jen did ear candling on us so I thought I would give it a try. It was the coolest thing but also gross, because you can hear your wax bubbling in your ear. Dad thought it was a good trade off that he help me since he sits through me cleaning his teeth every 6 months. I am not sure it was since I don't use fire. It takes about 5 days to see results so I am hopeful I will come out of the tunnel soon.

Colorado Garden and Home Show

Yesterday I tagged along with Annmarie and Steve to the Garden and Home show that is held yearly at the Convention Center. It has everything you would need for a home and even some unusual things. It took us almost 6 hours to go through, there were about 20 aisles that were probably 2 football field lengths or longer. Man were our feet and backs tired by the end of the day. Since they are in a new home and need to put in their back yard, they wanted to get ideas and find someone to do it. Some of the bigger companies put together some eleborate displays which included real flowers and tress. What a beautiful smell that was and it made me want Spring to come even sooner. We finished our day with dinner at Ted's Montana Grill, its a resturant owned by Ted Turner. Their speciality is bison, it was such a great meal. Thanks Annmarie and Steve for the fun day, I enjoyed being with the two of you, even Steve and his teasing.

Chilis in Puerto Vallarta, January 27,2008.

Our parents celebrated their 36th wedding anniversay yesterday. They have 6 great kids, 3 beautiful daugther-in-laws, 1 awesome son-in-law and 8 terrific grandchildren. What a great example they are to their family. They have such a great love for each other that we get to see everyday. They still continue their date night every Friday and any other chance they have to spend with each other. We love you both so much and appreciate the love you have for all of us.

Our last adventure

Parasailing was a wild ride. I am glad that I did it and can say that I went parasailing but I think this will be my one and only time at it. Mom and dad were not up to this so it was left to Aaron, Jen, Jake and me. We took off from the beach, the boat starts going and they tell you to squat and the next thing you know you are being lifted into the air. It was a windy day so while up in the air we were getting rocked back and forth. It was amazing to see everything from that vantage point and to see the people on the beach look like ants. It was around a 10 minute trip around the bay. As you make your way back to the beach you pull on a cord and you slowly touch ground again.

A 3 hour tour on ATVs

On our ATV tour we paired up and headed through town and up into the jungle. They gave us each goggles, hankerchief, and helmet which were very helpful after we saw how dirty our clothes and arms were at the end. The back roads we went up reminded us all of the mountains at home except for the palm trees mixed in with the other trees. There were two stops where we were able to rest our behinds. Our first stop had a mexican leopard or a black cat that became our friend because we had food. Jake was able to tame the cat with his charm but then the dog came along and chased it away. We were back on our way along the dirt roads and splashed through a few rivers for a photo op. The last stop was a Tequilla tasting and an explaination of how Tequilla is made. We were the only group not partaking and they looked at us like we had lobsters coming out of our ears. This was a great way to see another part of Puerto Vallarta. We all enjoyed it and were eager to jump in the swimming pool when we returned to the hotel.

Marigalante Pirate Ship

One night we took in a dinner and show on the Marigalante. Here is a little history of the ship. Marigalante is a Santa Maria replica, the ship used by Christopher Columbus when he discovered America. “The Pirate Ship”, as all the tourists call it, has sailed the seven seas. The world-wide voyages of the Marigalante began in 1987 when she visited Miami, Bermuda, Spain, Brazil, Panama, Hawaii and Japan, finally settling in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico. Today, this impressive ship has become a symbol of Puerto Vallarta, and its picture is known around the world.
The night began with a preshow of dancing by all the women on the ship and a contest between 3 women. A woman from Canada, Mexico and USA and can you guess who was chosen as Ms.USA............our Jennifer. It was a three part contest which included Jen being put into the stocks were she had to sing La Cucaracha with a piece of ice between her teeth, she had to be the first to put on a poncho and sombrero, and last part she had to dance for Aaron. Jen did a great job and all three women ended up winning a tee shirt. Then we had dinner were we could choose from either steak and shrimp, fish, or chicken. Unfortunately Jen got sea sick and wasn't able to eat her dinner. Luckily they gave her some Dramamine and after some fresh air she felt as good as new. The show was after dinner and a few fight scenes and fireworks later we were on our way back to the marina.

Canopy Tour

This was by far the greatest activity we did in Puerto Vallarta in my opinion. A canopy tour is essentially a wire cable suspended in the air connected at each end by a tree. You wear a harness and then its attached to a handle bar on the wire. The guides called it a Mexican Harley. Then you go zipping down the cable, where at the end a guide is there to stop you or come out and get you if you get stuck on the cable. This was my biggest fear but luckily I had no problems unlike Jake. There were a total of 14 lines during the tour with the highest being 400 meters. The lines went through the forest and over the river. Jen and I made many boyfriends on this trip especially with the videographer. He would ride down with you and record you and other guides would ride to get to the other platforms. One of my trips with a guide he was behind me and the next thing I knew he had spun me around in the middle of the wire over the river. The guides definelty made the tour with their sense of humor, we were always laughing. After the tour Jake, Jen and I decided to go and see the monkeys. They let you in the cages to feed the monkeys. The monkeys would jump between the three of us on our shoulders with their wet feet. This ended quickly for me after one of the monkeys peed on me. Normally, I would have been more grossed out but I was already hot and sweaty so it didn't matter. Jake and Aaron both held a python around their necks, that is were Jen and I drew the line. It was a great experience and something that I would do again. We were happy to see that mom and dad were good sports and were up to this adventure. Way to go!

Downtown Puerto Vallarta

We made many journeys to downtown Puerto Vallarta by way of the public bus, what an experience that was. It cost 50 pesos or 50 cents to ride each way. Many times we had to stand and that could be dangerous at times. The roads are made out of brick or stone so it was very bumpy. During the first part of our trip we spent the morning wondering the boardwalk and seeing the sights. Along the boardwalk there are sculptures depicting the Spanish heritage. A man even had done sand scupltures, they were pretty spectacular. We noticed that even after he had finished he always had to keep them moist so he would take his mister and continually water his sand. There were many vendors trying to persuade you to buy anything. There favorite lines were "Almost free" and "Cheaper than K-Mart." Jake is pretty proud of his bargaining skills. He found himself a Denver Broncos poncho and the man starting at $35 but by the time Jake was done he had him down to $23 and a free plastic bag. After a couple hours of this we decided to find a place for lunch. We found a restaurant and checked out the menu and the prices for food were pretty cheap so we decided to give it a try. Little did we know we were in for the suprise of our life. We each had about 2 sodas during our lunch and when the bill came it was over US$100. It turned out that there were no free refills and each soda cost $6. We learned a very important lesson that day and made sure to always ask if refills were free. It is definitely a different lifestyle there and we feel blessed for the things we enjoy in our lives.

The Beach

The beach was very beautiful, it is situated in the Banderas Bay. Many mornings and sometimes early afternoons we were lucky enough to see the whales. What an amazing sight that was. During this time of year is when they feed, we never did see any dolphins but I am sure they were there. Aaron and Jake enjoyed swimming in the ocean and sometimes Jen would join them. As for me I am not a big fan of getting in as far as they did up to my knees is just fine by me.

We stayed at Villa del Palmar which is about 5 minutes from downton Puerto Vallarta. It was a 2 bedroom and 2 bath suite, that looked right out to the pools and beach. Many mornings we rolled out of bed into our swimsuits and hit the beach. This is definetly a life we all could get use to.
